Start With a Face
Starter Faces
Five handmade paper-clay faces. A simple place to begin.
Sometimes you just need somewhere to start.
These little paper-clay faces began as original faces I sculpted in my studio, then molded and reproduced one at a time.
They’re intentionally unfinished. Paint them as they are, add more paper clay, turn them into full heads, change the nose, soften a cheek, reshape the mouth, add wrinkles, texture, hair… whatever begins to suggest itself.
We don’t quite know who these little beings are yet. That’s part of the fun.
A face may look one way when it arrives and become something completely different once you begin working with it. Somewhere along the way, a little personality begins to emerge, and often it’s not quite the one you expected. But it will be totally you, and your doll will be one-of-a-kind.
Each Starter Faces set includes five different faces in assorted sizes, ready to use with dolls, figures, assemblage, mixed-media pieces, or whatever else you dream up.

I leave these faces a little raw on purpose. You may find a small mold line, indentation, surface mark, or other irregularity. You can leave those bits alone and let them become part of the character, or easily soften, cover, or reshape them with a little more paper clay. Think of them as a starting point rather than a finished face.
