Funny Little Angels
A papier-mâché angel workshop
We're making a wall-hanging angel from wire, paper, and clay — the kind with a face that has opinions and hair that does what it wants. You won't know exactly how yours turns out until she's done. That's part of the fun.
5 Sessions: Tuesdays, August 4, 11, 18, 25 & September 1
1:00–3:30 PM Eastern
Live on Zoom

What We're Making
A wall-hanging papier-mâché angel — layered, textured, painted, and finished with a clay face, yarn hair, and a presence that becomes entirely her own.
How It Works
Five Tuesday afternoons, one layer at a time.
Each session, I'll show you the next step, and then we'll create together so you can ask questions with focused creative time. Papier-mâché and clay both need drying time, so you'll have simple steps between sessions to ensure your angel is ready for the next layer when we meet again.
This is built to be attended live, as a make-along, so you keep moving through the process and get your little angel done. Recordings are there if you need to catch up.
What We'll Cover
Session 1 — Building the Angel Form
Wire, paper, and tape. We'll build the basic structure and talk about shape and proportion. Between sessions, you'll refine the form so she's ready for the next stage.
Session 2 — Clay Faces
We'll make several small faces so you have options. These little faces are simple, and there’s no pressure to get them right the first time. This session is for you to practice and play. Between sessions, they dry, and you choose which one feels right.
Session 3 — Papier-Mâché and Texture
We'll get our hands into the papier-mâché this week, adding layers and building the surface. This is where she starts to feel like something real. Between sessions, you'll continue layering and drying.
Session 4 — Paint
Color, surface detail, and the moment where form, face, and texture start to connect. She'll begin to show you who she's becoming.
Session 5 — Hair, Finishing Details, and Sharing
Yarn hair, final touches, and the little meaningful details that make her complete. We'll end by sharing what we've each made — always one of my favorite parts of any workshop.
What Students Say About Making With Me
This is a new workshop, but here’s what students have said about past classes and studio days.
Materials
A full materials list goes out before the first session. We'll use wire, paper, tape, Model Magic clay, paste, paint, and yarn — simple things you may already have some of, and easy to gather what you don't.
Who This Is For
You, if you want to spend a few late-summer Tuesdays with your hands in a fun papier-mâché project. Especially if you're into handmade, folk art, angels, and the kind of project where a little paper, wire, and paint turn into something you’ll love.
No experience needed.

FAQs
-
No. This workshop is beginner-friendly. I’ll walk you through the process step by step, from building the form to adding layers, painting, hair, wings, and finishing details. You do not need to know what you’re doing before we begin.
-
Not at all. These angels are meant to be handmade, expressive, funny, quirky, and full of personality. This is not about making something polished or perfect. It’s about making a little angel you genuinely love.
-
We’ll make a wall-hanging papier-mâché angel with a handmade clay face, painted body, wings, yarn hair, and finishing details. Yours may be sweet, odd, funny, bold, tender, or completely different from what you expected.
-
Will my angel look like yours?
Probably not, and that’s part of the fun. I’ll teach you the structure and the process, but each angel comes out with her own personality. The examples show what’s possible, not what yours has to look like. -
We’ll meet live on Zoom for five Tuesday sessions. Each week, I’ll demonstrate the next step, then we’ll make alongside each other. You’ll be able to ask questions, see what I’m doing, and keep moving through the project with support.
-
Recordings are included for registered students, so you can catch up if you miss a week. That said, this workshop is designed to be attended live whenever possible. The making-together part really helps, especially with a project that unfolds in layers.
-
Yes, but nothing complicated. Because papier-mâché and clay need drying time, you’ll have simple between-session steps, like letting pieces dry, adding another layer, or choosing which face you want to use. I’ll make sure you know exactly what needs to happen before we meet again.
-
A full materials list will be sent before the first session. We’ll use simple supplies like wire, paper, tape, Model Magic clay, papier-mâché paste, paint, yarn, and a few basic tools. You may already have some of what you need, and the rest should be easy to gather.
-
Plan for a little bit of time between sessions, especially during the papier-mâché stage. Some weeks may only need a small amount of prep or drying time. Other weeks, you may want an extra hour or two to keep layering, painting, or playing with details.
-
It’s okay. This is one reason the recordings are included. I’ll also keep the between-session steps clear so you know what matters most before the next class. You do not need to do everything perfectly or keep up in some rigid way.
-
This workshop is meant for personal creative use. You’re welcome to make angels for yourself or as gifts, but please don’t sell work made directly from this class design or teach this project as your own. After you’ve learned the process, you may naturally take the techniques in your own direction, and that’s where your own original work begins.
-
Because this live Zoom workshop includes recordings, refunds are not available. If you miss a session or can’t attend live, you’ll still receive access to the class recordings so you can follow along on your own schedule.
